Summary
[edit]DescriptionHüdavendigar Türbesi 1147.jpg |
English: Across the road from the mosque there is the mausoleum of Murat I.
A note reads: “Sultan Murat I was the third ruler of the Ottoman empire. During his reign conguests were eventually formed in Thrace and Balks. His body was brought back to Bursa by his son Sultan Beyazit I, to be housed with honour after his assassination on the field following his great victory at Kosova. The plan of the tomb is more or less the original concept. An inscription above the entrance records a restoration in 1741 and another followed the earthquake of 1855. Some metalwork and a Kur’an sent by Sultan Berkuk are now in the Türk ve Islam Eserli Müzesi Bursa. “ As I visited a couple of times and took pictures one can see how originally there was just one catafalque, later to be joined by two smaller ones, and how the covers change from not at all to highly ornate. |
