Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Hamilton Ward House, 19 Coe Place, Buffalo, December 2019. This Queen Anne-style beauty is the most magnificent of the several dozen lining this cozy Midtown block designed and built by contractor George Chadeayne in 1890 and 1891. The most prominent feature, of course, is the engaged, three-story octagonal turret topped with a metal cupola. Born in Washington, DC during his namesake father's term in Congress as the representative for New York's 27th congressional district, Hamilton Ward, Jr. (1871-1932) moved to Buffalo in the 1890s and served in various local political offices before being elected New York State Attorney General in 1928, serving until 1930 as the sole Republican elected official to a statewide office at that time. An ardent conservationist, Ward was also responsible for the establishment of Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park, Allegany State Park in Cattaraugus County, and eventually the Erie County Parks Commission. His house was thoroughly restored in 2008 by the Belmont Shelter Corporation, who continues to own it.
