Deutsch: Dieses Ölgemälde malte der Künstler Hans Nowak um das Jahr 1990, also kurz nach dem Fall der Mauer in der früheren DDR. Es ist eine Hommage an seine Geburtsstadt Halle an der Saale, die er nach dem Mauerfall wieder ungehindert und frei besuchen konnte. Das impressionistische Bild zeigt in der Stadt Halle den Roten Turm sowie die vier Türme der Marktkirche Unser Lieben Frauen. Im unteren Bildteil sind die Marktstände mit ihren bunten Markisen und die Menschen auf dem Marktplatz verschwommen angedeutet.
Gemäß der Autobiographie von Hans Nowak malte dieser ein weiteres Bild vom Roten Turm schon etwa Ende 1960. Dieses Bild ist bisher öffentlich unbekannt, hingegen waren zu dieser Zeit sein impressionistischer Malstil und sein Duktus längst noch nicht so ausgeprägt und souverän wie im konkreten Bild. Recherchen zeigten aber auf einem Zeitungsfoto aus dem Jahr 1980 bei einer Ausstellung in Hude bei Bremen ein weiteres Bild von Hans Nowak, das den Marktplatz in Halle darstellt. Bei diesem Bild arbeitete der Künstler mit Bildreduktionen. Auf dem alten Zeitungsfoto ist der Rote Turm vollständig zu erkennen, auch wenn auf dem Zeitungsfoto der Künstler vor dem Bild steht und mit seinem Körper den Unterbau des Turms verdeckt. Es gibt ein weiteres Bild von Hans Nowak, das die Marktkirche von Halle als Hauptmotiv im Vordergrund zeigt, während der Rote Turm am rechten Bildrand nur angedeutet ist. Bei diesem Ölbild, undatiert und entstanden etwa um 1970, arbeitete der Künstler ebenfalls mit Bildreduktionen; hingegen ist die markante Silhouette der Marktkirche sehr gut erkennbar. Dieses Bild ist im Eigentum des Stadtmuseums Halle. English: This oil painting was painted by the artist Hans Nowak around 1990, shortly after the fall of the Wall in the former GDR. It is a tribute to his native city of Halle an der Saale, which he was able to visit again unhindered and without any restriction after the fall of the Wall. The impressionistic painting shows in the city of Halle the Red Tower (Roter Turm) and the four towers of the market church (Marktkirche) Unser Lieben Frauen. In the lower part of the painting the booths with their colorful awnings and the people on the market are indicated blurred. According to Hans Nowak's autobiography, he painted another picture of the Red Tower around the end of 1960. This painting is unknown to the public yet, but at that time his impressionistic painting style and his ductus were far from being as pronounced and as masterful as in the present picture. However, research revealed another painting by Hans Nowak depicting the market square in Halle in a newspaper photograph from 1980 at an exhibition in Hude near Bremen. In this painting, the artist worked with image reductions. In the old newspaper photo, the Red Tower can be seen in its entirety, even if the artist is standing in front of the painting in the newspaper photo, covering the base of the tower with his body. There is another painting by Hans Nowak, which shows the Marktkirche (market church) of Halle as the main motive in the foreground, while the Red Tower is only indicated on the right-hand edge of the painting. In this oil painting, undated and created around 1970, the artist also worked with image reductions; however, the striking silhouette of the market church is very clearly recognizable.
