Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Harry T. Austin House, 73 Treehaven Road at Bame Avenue, Buffalo, New York, July 2022. Here we have a perfect example of a design of house known retroactively as "Minimal Traditional" which was popular in the 1930s, '40s and '50s and, in the Buffalo area, is typically seen in first-ring suburbs as well as far outer neighborhoods of the city proper. The Minimal Traditional style consists of imitations of various aesthetics that were then popular in upper-class residential design - in this case, the Tudor Revival (note the asymmetrical façade, rustic stone chimney, bluntly pointed arch above the main entrance, and decorative half-timbering on the roof gable) - scaled down and simplified so as to be affordable to the middle class. 73 Treehaven was built in 1948 for construction contractor Harry Thomas Austin (1893-1965), who lived there with his family until his death.
