Description
English: Gelatine picture, Germany, end of 19th century, cross, red, probably coloured gelatine (in earlier times such pictures were made of the swim bladder of beluga), body heat makes it roll up when put on palm or breathed upon, white print: Sei getreu bis in den Tod. (Be thou faithful unto death.), used as devotional picture and to reward school children in Religious Education.
Deutsch: Hauchbild, Deutschland, Ende 19. Jahrhundert, Kreuzform, rot, vermutlich farbige bedruckte Gelatine (zu früheren Zeiten wurden derartige Bilder aus der Schwimmblase des Fisches Hausen hergestellt), rollt sich auf der Handfläche oder beim Anhauchen durch die Körperwärme ein, weißer Druck: Sei getreu bis in den Tod. Als Devotionalie und Belohnung für Schulkinder im Religionsunterricht benutzt.
