Mr. Roberts is unmarried, a Mason,and a member of the Bellam)^ club.He never allows himself to be dis-tracted by the excitement of politics,but devotes himself exclusively to hisbusiness, in which his foresight andsagacity, as well as his unvaryingcourtesy, have won the fullest meas-ure of success. Wecohamet Lodge, I. O. O. F., theoldest in Dover, was instituted De-cember 28, 1843. The first installedofficer w^as Samuel H. Parker, afterwhom Canton Parker was subse-quently named. Wecohamet Lodgeis the third oldest, also the thirdwealthiest in the state. Per cap-ita it is second in the state. Thepresent noble grand, Gustavus A.Anderson, was born in Sweden in1868, wa. educated in the publicschools there, and came to Americain 1888. He is by trade a machineprinter. 230 DO VER.

Frank Lincolu Hayes, Doversleading painter and decorator, is anative of the cit3% born December 17,1865, and received his education inthe public schools and at PhillipsExeter academy, having been amember of the class of 1885 in thelatter institution. He has been en-gaged in business for the last sixyears, and has been very successful,having a more extensive patronagethan any other in his line in this sec-tion, his average weekly pay-rollamounting to $250. Among his re-cent contracts was that for the deco-ration of the Somersworth operahouse, which, though small, is rec-ognized as the most handsomelydecorated theatre east of Boston.Mr. Hayes is a Republican in poli-tics, and has been in close touchwith municipal affairs, having servedtwo years in the common council andbeing now on his second term as amember of the board of aldermen.He is a member of Moses Paul Lodge of Masons, Belknap Chapter, Or-phan Council and St. Paul Com-mandery, K. T., also of Olive BranchLodge, K.
