DescriptionHeavy traffic.jpg |
"There are three major types of vehicles on the park in Denali National Park: The shuttle buses (which we took) that move people around and provide limited (but quite helpful) patter, Tour buses which don't go as far into the park but (apparently) provide a more extensive tour patter, and private buses that convey guests to the lodges in Kantishna. (Kantishna is an old mining town down at the end of the park road that got absorbed when the park was created, and several of those private properties are now guest lodges.) All these buses will stop whenever they spot wildlife, and a good spotting can result in some serious traffic jams. Of course it doesn't take many big buses to completely clog up a narrow, two lane gravel road...[Author's elipsis] This isn't a great shot, but gives you a sense of what things can be like when it piles up." |
