Dieses großformatige Werk entstand in südfranzösischen Sanary bei Toulon. Es handelt sich dabei um ein „paysage à figures“, also um eine mit Figuren bevölkerte Landschaft. Dargestellt ist die älteste Tochter des Künstlers Marthe Lebasque in einen weit geschnittenen Kimono, die entspannt auf einer grün gestrichenen Gartenbank sitzt und verträumt aus dem Bild blickt. Neben ihr liegen ein paar frisch gepflückte Blumen, ein Sonnenhut und ein Buch – alles Attribute eines ganz dem Müßiggang hingegebenen Lebens. Hinter der Bank erscheint ein zweites, einige Jahre jüngeres Mädchen, bei dem es sich wohl um die jüngste Tochter des Künstlers namens Nono handelt. Neben Henri Lebasque malten auch andere Künstler zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts solche vom Sonnenlicht durchflutete und von jungen Mädchen bevölkerte Landschaften. Vor allem die Fauves, denen sich Lebasque eng verbunden fühlte, wählten ebenfalls diese Thematik. |
