Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Gustav Vigeland's statue of the Norwegian poet Henrik Wergeland (1808–45) was erected in 1908 in the Wergeland Park in the center of the en:Kristiansand, Norway. The sculpture was erected in connection with the 100th anniversary of his birth. Vigeland's inspiration for his rendition of Wergeland is said to have come from a few lines from the poem "Myself": "Glorious Evening Star! I bare my head. Like a crystal bath, your radiance descends upon it." In 1934 the statue was mounted on a new pedestal, and the wrought-iron fence was put in place. The picture was taken in October with withered plants and autumn leaves on the trees.
