Summary[edit]
DescriptionHermitage Museum XX-2520 Four Beauties.jpg |
English: Four Beauties. Xylograph. 79 × 34 cm. Hermitage Museum. Inventory number: ХХ-2520. Titled "随朝窈窕呈傾國之芳容", and inscribed with the names of the four beauties depicted as Ban Ji 班姫, Zhao Feiyan 趙飛燕, Wang Zhaojun 王昭君, and Lüzhu 緑珠. Inscribed "Engraved and printed by the Ji family of Pingyang" 平陽姬徐家彫印. Pingyang 平陽 is modern Linfen in Shanxi, and was within the territory of the Jin 金 state (1115–1234), bordering with the Western Xia state to the north. Therefore this print is probably an example of Jin dynasty art rather than Western Xia (Tangut) art. See also Hermitage Museum XX-2519 Guan Yu.jpg which was also produced in Pingyang. |
