Summary

[edit]
Description A high-performance steel (HPS) was chosen for the continuously welded plate composite girders as part of an FHWA, Highways for LIFE supported Iowa DOT bridge reconstruction project. Special low alloy 70 kilo-pound per square inch (ksi) steel gives these girders better corrosion resistance and increased fracture toughness over conventional steel. Expected benefits are longer service life and less maintenance during the life of the bridge.
