Description
English: Riparia riparia nest in sand, Plateau d'Helfaut, north of France.
Français : Sur le plateau d'Helfaut, avant qu'une partie n'en soit classé en Réserve naturelle, la partie supérieure de plusieurs carrières de sable (sable du Landénien) a abrité dans les années 1970-1990s, jusqu'à plusieurs centaines de nids d'hirondelles de rivage (à Helfaut, Blendecques, Baudringhem). Il existait une autre belle colonie à Blendecques dans une carrière située entre le plateau d'Helfaut et Longuenesse..
Avec l'effondrement de certaines falaises de sable, et avec le comblement de certaines carrières (par des déchets industriels ou banals), la population de cette espèce s'est depuis fortement réduite dans l'Audomarois.

photo prise dans une carrière de sable, sur le flanc sud du plateau d'Helfaut, un peu à gauche de l'ancien stand de Tir d'Heuringhem. La partie basse de cette zone est située à Heuringhem, et débouche en hauteur à proximité de Baudringhem/Wardrecques.
