En 1909, tras la celebración de la copa Cataluña, el ingeniero Birkgt desarrolla una nueva generación de automóviles, entre los que se encuentra el 30-40 HP, sustituto como gran turismo popular del 20-30 HP.

El ejemplar aquí expuesto es una pieza histórica de valor incalculable, ya que su estado es absolutamente original. Fue adquirido por el Marqués de Zayas y carrozado por el prestigioso Francisco Capella sin reparar en gastos, empleando en él maderas nobles, marfil y plata. Fue el primer automóvil declardo "Bien de Interés Cultural".
