Summary

[edit]
Description

The Strater Hotel in Durango, Colorado is one of the American West's iconic and characterful hotels.

It was built in 1887 by a Cleveland pharmacist named Henry Strater, who believed Durango would prosper and therefore need a grand hotel. He opened the Strater after an expenditure of $70,000, and as it evolved it became a popular retreat for townfolk who would move in during the cold winter months.

Durango did prosper due mainly to mining in the nearby mountains. Today it's a popular hotel with visitors and is in a central location.

Oh, and it's said to be haunted.
