| Description |
English: Andhra Pradesh is a state along the long southeastern coast of India. With hills of Eastern Ghats, fertile valleys of irrigated by the Krishna and Godavari rivers, it is a land of rich heritage from ancient times. Along with Odisha and Tamil Nadu, the state played a key role over many centuries in the spread of Buddhism and Hinduism to Southeast Asia.
The state has one of the highest collection of Buddhist monuments and monasteries, both from early Hinayana and later Mahayana subtraditions of Buddhism. Andhra Pradesh is also rich in historic Hindu temples and monasteries with arts and architecture reflecting local creativity as well as a fusion of the Kalinga, Nagara and Dravida styles. The state hosts the oldest known Shiva linga, some of the most visited Vaishnava pilgrimage sites, along with spectacular Chalukya and Kalinga architecture, These range from about 400 BCE to 1800 CE. A curated list of over 110 major historic sites in Andhra Pradesh are pinned in the above map. Their GPS coordinates are listed below.
