Description

Ausschnitt des Fotos In der Nikolaikirche (16) Von dem Kupferstecher und Radierer Frans Hogenberg (1535-1590) und Georg Braun (1541-1622) im damals umfassenden, richtungsweisenden Werk mit Städteansichten Civitates Orbis Terrarum 1588. Blickrichtung nach Norden zur Ostsee: Links das Westufer, rechts das Ostufer der Kieler Förde. Die (Halb-) Insellage der Stadt zwischen der Förde im Osten und dem westlich umschließenden Kleinen Kiel (der auf einigen historischen Karten als Stadtgraben gezeichnet war) wird deutlich. Bis in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhundert war der Kleine Kiel unmittelbar mit der Förde verbunden. Über diese Verbindung führt die Holstenbrücke.

Im Zentrum die Nikolaikirche und der Markt, dahinter rechts das KIeler Schloss. Links die Heiligengeistkirche (Kieler Kloster). Im Vordergrund links die Vorstadt, vielleicht mit dem Ziegelteich. , Ganz im Hintergrund Häuser auf dem Brunswiker Flur und vermutlich das Dorf Brunswik.
