Description
Русский: Фреска 64 (LXIV): Павсий пишет быка.
«Павсий <…> первым придумал тот приём в живописи, в котором впоследствии подражали ему многие, но не сравнялся никто: прежде всего, желая показать длину быка, он написал его обращённым спереди, а не сбоку, но величина его чувствуется вполне; затем, тогда как все делают те места, которые хотят представить выступающими, чуть светлой краской, а те места, которые углубляют, тёмной, он сделал всего быка чёрной краской, а тени добился при помощи её самой, с поистине огромным искусством показав на ровных поверхностях выступающие места, а на изгибах — все объёмы» (Плиний Старший. Естественная история. XXXV, 126—127).
