Holi celebration in Savarali village of Maharashtra

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Holi is the festival celebrated to represent the story of Holika Dahan. It is celebrated on the full moon day (Falgun Paurnima), most probably falls in the month of March.

The traditional celebration includes setting the fire to dry wooden logs, arranged like a pyramid. This actually depicts the removal of unhealthy emotions. Here in the photograph is the unique way of celebrating Holi in tribal villages of Maharashtra near Pune. The wood used for Holi is taken from the jungles (mainly Indian coral tree) and between these logs one branch of fig (Umbar) is added by the group of villagers. Before that, every family in the village offer sweet jaggery roti (Puran Papadi) or the coconut. They tie it to the branch and then it is actually lifted to keep inside the triangularly arranged dry logs. Then someone from the village set a fire. Women sing the traditional Holi songs in the native language. They also play traditional games in the field itself. This is the way it is celebrated in the parts of Bhimashankar near Pune. Holi celebration differs in all the places.

It is really an important festival in the rural part, when all the family members come together.
