Description
Deutsch: Ganz oben: der Blick aus Wasserhöhe, der Photograph legte sich direkt am Strand an der Wellenkante flach auf den Boden. Die Kamera war nur geringfügig über der Wasseroberfläche. Die Kamerahöhe war dann vielleicht wenige Dezimeter.

Beim mittleren Bild stand der Photograph an derselben Stelle wie zuvor aufrecht. Die Kamerhöhe war dann vielleicht 1,7 Meter.

Bei der unteren Aufnahme war der Photograph auf einen nahegelegenen Dünenübergang gestiegen. Die geschätzte Höhe ist rund 10 Meter.

Die Entfernung der Horizontlinie, kurz des Horizontes kann für die Erde mit einer vergleichsweise einfachen Formel abgeschätzt werden:

s = 3,57·√H

s ist die Entfernung der Horizontlinie und H die Höhe der Augen des Beobachters über der Meeresoberfläche.

- Oberes Bild: H ≈ 0,4 m → s ≈ 2,3 km
- Mittleres Bild: H ≈ 1,7 m → s ≈ 4,7 km
- Unteres Bild: H ≈ 10 m → s ≈ 11 km

Beim unteren Bild verläuft die Horizontlinie in etwa auch entlang der Wasserlinie der Schiffe, die abgeschätzte Entfernung von 11 km könnte also gut in Nähe der wahren Entfernung der Schiffe liegen.
