Summary

[edit]
Description St.Louis & San Francisco RR "1600" Class 2-10-0 No.1621 at the National Museum of Transport St Louis, 8/70. In WWI 857 of these decapods were ordered by Imperial Russia and built in 1916-17 by Baldwin & ALCO but were deliveries stopped when the Communist Revolution broke out leaving 200 completed locos undelivered. USRA took them over and allocated 56 to the Pennsylvania RR, 75 to Erie RR, 37 to Seaboard, and 20 to Frisco (which later got another second hand) plus small numbers to "short lines". Amazingly, in WWII Soviet Russia ordered 2,110 more of these locos from Baldwin & ALCO, which were delivered 1944-46 but the start of the Cold War resulted in the last batch being undelivered. A few were scrapped unused but most went to "short lines". In addition, some Russian locos were given to China.
