Summary

[edit]
Description SNCF Standard "241P" 4-8-2 No.241P.16 (Schneider 1948). An update of the PLM "241C" Class, which was a curious choice for express passenger service when the SNCF already had the superb "240P" 4-8-0 standards (the most efficient steam loco class ever built) based on the Chapelon PO "240As" explicable only by the predominence of ex-PLM Senior Officers in the SNCF who heartily disliked the PO. The excuse was that the "240As" had weak frames (which they did), but so had the "241Cs" and the "240Ps" had much stronger frames. So the "240Ps" were prematurely scrapped and the "241Ps" were built which still had frames that were not particularly strong and required regular patching! Nonetheless, still a very powerful, efficient and competant design. 3/10.
