Description
English: Fragment from demolished chest tomb c.1488 in Molland Church, Devon, probably that of Sir Philip Courtenay (d.1488) of Molland, showing within a gothic quatrefoil an escutcheon bearing the arms of Courtenay of Molland: Or, 3 torteaux a label of 3 points azure each point charged with 3 plates a crescent for difference, (note the crescent, which resembles a 4th torteau, signifying a second son) with supporters the Courtenay dolphins; within the lower lobe of the quatrefoil are shown the Hungerford Sickles, the badge of the Hungerford family, here shown as two sickles addorsed entwined.
