Summary[edit]

Description Tour de la première enceinte médiévale de la ville d'Hyères qui ne serait pas antérieure au XIIIe siècle. Cette tour, photographiée intra-muros, est la première, en partant de l'ouest, qui flanquait la courtine venant prendre appui à l'angle nord-est du château proprement dit. Elle est ouverte à la gorge, ce qui empêchait un éventuel assaillant ayant pu franchir la courtine de pouvoir s'en servir pour sa propre défense. De plan quadrangulaire, cette tour a une hauteur maximum de 15 m. On peut restituer trois niveaux dont deux constitués de planchers de bois. Les constructeurs ont jugé bon de réaliser au préalable une sorte de terrasse en terre-plein retenus par des murs de soutènement en moellons de schiste afin de compenser le fort dénivelée du terrain et de limiter ainsi l'importance des élévations. Les trois murs sont pourvus de deux niveaux d'archères.
