Commemorative plaque from IEEE from 2019 for the 1987 discovery in Nieuwegein of the WaveLAN wireless communication in a computer network. Text: "IEEE Milestone / WaveLAN, Precursor of Wi-Fi, Nieuwegein 1987 / In November 1987, a group of Dutch engineers in Nieuwegein demonstrated a / method for significantly increasing the data rate under new regulations / that permitted license-exempt wireless data communication in certain / frequency bands.
