בית הקברות היהודי (IL VECCHIO CIMITERO EBRAICO DI ANCONA הוקם בשנת 1428, במרחק קצר ממרכז העיר, הוקצב על ידי ממשל העיר שטח להקמת בית קברות ליהודים. כמקובל אצל יהדות איטליה בית הקברות הוקם מחוץ לחומות העיר, ביציאה פורטה סן פיאטרו(porta San Pietro). לאחר ארבעים שנה הורחב בית הקברות לשטח נוסף. בשנת 1711 הוקם בית קברות נוסף בשטח אחר בעיר. יש להניח כי ליהודי העיר היה בית קברות נוסף, שכן הם התגוררו בעיר מאות שנים קודם לכן.

בית הקברות היהודי המצוי במורדות הגבעות: קפוצ'יני וקארדטו, באחד האזורים יפה נוף בעיר. אותרו בו 178 מצבות עם כתובות עבריות מהמאה ה-15 עד המאה ה-19. חלק מהמצבות נפלו בשל חשיפת פני הקרקע במורד ההר. המצבות הונחו לכיוון ירושלים כמקובל אצל היהודים. המצבות נראות באור הראשון של הזריחה בצבען הלבן על רקע הצמחיה הירוקה.

בית הקברות נחשב לבית הקברות היהודי הגדול באירופה - אותרו בו מעל אלף אתרי קבורה. הוא נחשב בין אלו השמורים ביותר.

בית הקברות אינו פתוח לציבור. בכניסה לבית הקברות מצוי ריכוז מצבות לפי מועדי הפטירה. אלו נאספו מכל תחום בית הקברות.
