Description
Nederlands: Op de terreinen aan de Drongensesteenweg in Gent waar vroeger het textielveredelingsbedrijf Alsberge-Van Oost nv was gevestigd, is er nu een woonwijk aangelegd. In 1978 sluit de fabriek en 30 jaren lang staan de gebouwen leeg. Van de oorspronkelijke blekerij voor linnenweefsel blijft niets meer over. In 1981 worden de stoommachine, de machinekamer en het ketelhuis als monument en stadszicht beschermd. Enkele jaren later laat de toenmalige eigenaar het ketelhuis toch afbreken. De Dienst Monumentenzorg legt de sloopwerken ternauwernood stil maar het gebouw ligt al in puin. Vandalen graaien onderdelen van de stoommachine mee en richten schade aan in de machinekamer. De stoommachine werd in 1913 gebouwd door machinebouwer Van den Kerchove in Gent en de wanden van de machinekamer waren oorspronkelijk bekleed met faiencetegels in art-nouveaustijl. Het geheel wacht nog op restauratie.
