English: A young Ian Campbell of Islay, in Highland dress (a mixture of military and civilian style). He wears a kilt, possibly of a regiment, along with a plain civilian jacket, a military-style Glengarry bonnet, and a shoulder plaid in a simpler pattern than the kilt. He holds what appears to be a collapsible spyglass in his lap, and is sitting on a rock.
