Description
English: Geographical distribution of the different schistosome species. Each of these species has their own geographic pattern: Schistosoma mansoni (S. mansoni) infection mostly occurring in sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, South America; Schistosoma intercalatum (S. intercalatum) in Congo, Nigeria, Chad and Central African Republic; Schistosoma haematobium (S. haematobium) is mostly prominent in sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, Middle East, India and the islands of Madagascar and Mauritius; Schistosoma japonicum (S. japonicum) is endemic to Asian countries only such as China, Philippines and Indonesia and finally Schistosoma mekongi (S. mekongi) is found exclusively in Laos and Cambodia.
