Round-jawed Pliers. screui of the Iriver. side, which is file-cut to enablethem to take fasthold of smallpieces of metal tobe filed, bent, &c.In the roundpliers the jawsare more or lessconical in shape,for the bending ofi wire, etc. The hand-viee is not somuch employed in slojd-carpentry as in metal slojd.Its chief use is to securesmall pieces of metal forfiling. It may be held inthe hand, or, after the pieceof metal has been madefast, it may itself be screwedinto a hand-screw or to thebench, that both hands maybe free for the work offiling. The screwdriver is used for driving in screws,and is made of hard steel. At the end it is bev-elled to a thick point, which varies from /^-inchto yVi^ch in thickness, depending on the size ofthe screw for which it is to be used. The bevelled edges should be parallel, and thepoint should be as little as possible like a wedgein shape, but should lie flat in the slit of the nail* full size, seen otherwise it will have a tendency to slip
