He practiced as attor-ney for the cities of Nephi, Levan andDelta, was judge of the Juvenile Courtof the Fifth Judicial District, attorneyon the Council of Defence of JuabCounty during the World war andDistrict Judge of the Fifth JudicialDistrict, comprising the counties ofJuab, Millard, Beaver, Iron and Wash-ington during the years 1923-1929. Hewas a member of the Law Committeewhich drew the first good roads lawever placed on the Utah Statute Booksand for ten years was chairman of theLaw Committee of the MunicipalLeague of Utah, which comprises all 122 LATTER-DAY SAINT of the cities and towns in the State ofUtah. Under his direction and super-vision the Local Option Law and final-ly the Prohibition Law of the State ofUtah was prepared and presented tothe Legislature, and he was a memberof the House of Representatives of theState of Utah in 1929 and during aspecial session in 1930. On Aug. 8,1900, Bro. Burton was ordained aSeventy by B. H. Roberts and set apart

Text Appearing After Image: for a mission to the Nortliein States,during which he labored principallyin the Southern Illinois Conference; hereturned home Sept. 5, 1901, beinghonorably released on account of thedeath of his father. On Aug. 17, 1924,he was ordained a High Priest byApostle Rudger Clawson and set apartas first counselor to President AlbertH. Belliston of the Juab Stake. Thisposition he held until his death, whichoccurred Aug. 13, 1930, following asurgical operation. On Jan. 14, 1903,he had married Hannah May Pexton,daughter of Jos. D. Pexton and MaryEllen Grow. Six children were bornof this mairiage, namely Dr. MarcusH. of Washington, D. C, Florence,Blanche, Clarence G., Alma P. and LeeClark. Previous to being called to theStake presidency Judge Burton hadpresided over the Y. M. M. I. A. of the Juab Stake.
