This he gave to Salt LakeCounty upon retirement from office in1890, and the system is still in useafter more than forty-five years; and has been copied in many other coun-ties of Utah. Elder Cannon was elected to theConstitutional convention in 1895, andwas chairman of two of its commit-tees; one on taxation; the other onpublic debt. In 1895 he became chair-man of the Republican State Commit-tee, and had charge of the campaignwhich ratified the State Constitution,and elected to state office every manon the Republican ticket. Utah be-came a state on Jan. 4, 1896, and Mr.Cannon became the first president ofthe State Senate of Utah. (See alsoBio. Ency. Vol. 1, p. 566.) CANNON, Tracy Y., Bishop of theCannon Ward and member of the gen-eral board of the Deseret SundaySchool Union and of the general musiccommittee of the Church, was born Text Appearing After Image: July 23, 1879, in Salt Lake City, Utah,a son of George Q. Cannon and Caro-line Young. He was baptized Aug. 2,1887, by Joseph Keddington and or-dained a Deacon; ordained a TeacherFeb. 29, 1896, by George Q. Cannon,and a Priest Nov. 19, 1897, by CyrusH. Gold. He was ordained an ElderSept. 12, 1898, by Angus M. Cannon, aSeventy June 25, 1901, by J. GoldenKimball, and a High Priest in Novem- 208 LATTER-DAY SAINT ber, 1915, by Wm. McLachlan. Heserved as a member of the PioneerStake High Council from November,1915, to May 15, 1927, and became amember of the General Sunday SchoolBoard, June 8, 1917, being set apart tothat position by Pies. Joseph F.
