Text Appearing Before Image: until June 27, 1857, when he sailed on the ship Lu-cas, homeward bound. FARNHAM, Augustus, presidentof the Australasian Mission from1853 to 1856, was born May 20, 1805,in Andover, Essex Co., Mass., a son ofPeter and Chloe Farnham. He wasbaptized April 21, 1843, ordained aSeventy Aug. 17, 1845, was called tofill a mission to Australasia, arrivingin Sydney April 1, 1851, on the shipPacific. He became president ofthe mission by vote April 10, 1853,and left for home May 28, 1856, onthe ship Jenny Ford. Elder Farn-ham died May 2, 1865, at Farming-ton, Utah. FORD, Thomas, a local Elder, pres-ident of the Australasian Missionfrom May, 1858 to 1863, died in Aus-tralia in 1863 while presiding overthe mission. GEDDES, William, president of theAustralasian Mission from 1874 to1875, died Aug. 23, 1899, in PlainCity, Utah. (See Bio. Ency., Vol. 1,p. 462.) GROO, Isaac, president of theAustralasian Mission from 1876 to1877, died Jan. 24, 1895, in Salt LakeCity, Utah. (See Bio. Ency., Vol. 3,p. 93.)

Ency., Vol. MAY, Fredrick John, president ofthe Australasian Mission from Au-gust to December, 1878, was bomJan. 16, 1844, in Southampton, Hamp-shire, England, the son of John Mayand Mary Lewis. Having relativesin Utah, he emigrated to Americain 1866 and arrived in Salt Lake Citythe following year. Becoming con-vinced of the truth of Mormonism,he was baptized May 6, 1868. He wasordained a Seventy Feb. 14, 1876, byRobert Patrick, and filled a mission toAustralasia in 1878-1881, being ap-pointed president Sept. 15, 1878, withThomas A. Shreeve as his assistant.He returned to Utah in July, 1880,with a small company of Saints. Hefilled a mission to Arizona in 1882-1884, was ordained a High PriestFeb. 4, 1904, by David McKenzie, anddied May 19, 1910, in Salt Lake City,Utah.
