Description
Español: Tras la fundación de la nueva ciudad de Panamá, se construye el templo y convento de los Franciscanos frente a la playa de Santo Domingo.

Luego de la independencia a España, la anexión voluntaria de Panamá a la Gran Colombia y la promulgación del Congreso de Cúcuta, el gobierno central de Nueva Granada expropió los terrenos. Luego fue cuartel militar para formar el Batallón del Istmo que apoyó en las Batallas de Junín y Ayacucho consolidando así la independencia de Perú en 1824. También funcionó como hospital para extranjeros.

Posteriormente fue sede de diversos colegios, como el Nacional Balboa (1892-1899), de La Salle (1910-1952), San Agustín (1953-1959) y el Instituto Bolívar (1959-1999), que compartió espacio con el Comercial Bolívar (1958) y el Primer Ciclo América (1961-1972).

Actualmente El Palacio Bolívar, es la sede del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores desde el año 2003; este edificio tiene una arquitectura ecléctica de unos 10 mil metros cuadrados.
