Arditti Quartet Nederlands: Kent u een strijkkwartet op wereldniveau dat meer vertrouwd is met de hedendaagse muziek dan het Arditti Quartet? Hoogstwaarschijnlijk niet. Daarom komt u de Arditti's al meer dan twintig jaar lang met grote regelmaat tegen zowel op het podium van deSingel als op iedere editie van Ars Musica. Voor dit concert vroegen wij Irvine Arditti om te vertrekken van 'Ikhoor' van de Griekse componist Yannis Xenakis, een schurend en intuïtief geschreven strijktrio. Niet meer of niet minder dan een fundament van de hedendaagse kamermuziek. De Braziliaanse componist Felipe Lara is volgens Arditti een van de allerbeste jonge componisten van het moment. Hij vermengt verschillende muzikale talen in een radicaal eigen syntaxis. Zo ook in zijn recente tweede strijkkwartet, een werk dat met of zonder electronics kan gespeeld worden. Na het succes van de creatie van het eerste kwartet van de Franse spectralist Hugues Dufourt tijdens het Straatsburgse festival Musica was Arditti onmiddellijk bereid tot de creatie van een tweede werk van deze componist. Tot slot het laatste kwartet van de man die de Britse muziekgeschiedenis zowat eigenhandig op het spoor van de avant-garde heeft gezet, Sir Harrison Birtwistle. C'est pourquoi régulièrement et depuis plus de vingt ans, vous avez pu voir les Ardittis tant sur les scènes de deSingel qu'à l'occasion de chaque édition d'Ars Musica. Pour ce concert, nous avons demandé à Irvine Arditti de se baser sur 'Ikhoor' du compositeur grec Yannis Xenakis, trio à cordes décapant, composé de façon intuitive, qui constitue ni plus ni moins qu'une des bases de la musique de chambre contemporaine. D'après Arditti, le compositeur brésilien Felipe Lara est un des plus brillants jeunes compositeurs de notre époque. Il associe plusieurs langages musicaux, réalisant une syntaxe extrêmement personnelle. Il en va de même dans son récent deuxième quatuor à cordes, œuvre qui peut être jouée avec ou sans instruments électroniques. À l'issue du succès de la création du premier quatuor du spectraliste français Hugues Dufourt lors du festival Ars Musica à Strasbourg, Arditti fut immédiatement disposé à présenter la création d'une deuxième œuvre de ce compositeur. Pour terminer, nous entendrons le dernier quatuor de Sir Harrison Birtwistle, l'homme qui pratiquement à lui seul, a mené l'histoire de la musique britannique sur la voie de la musique d'avant-garde.
