Artemis Quartett Nederlands: Met het sublieme vioolrecital van Natalja Prischepenko nog vers in het geheugen kijken we al uit naar haar terugkeer met het Artemis Quartett. Op het programma een boeiend stukje kwartetgeschiedenis. Aan vorst Lobkovitz hebben we te danken dat Beethoven zich rond 1800 voor het eerst aan het kwartetgenre durfde te wagen. Uit de zes kwartetten opus 18 spreekt duidelijk zijn bewondering voor de traditie van zijn illustere voorgangers Haydn en Mozart. Schuberts Strijkkwartet in d, D810 is een van zijn krachtigste, meest expressieve werken. In het langzame deel citeert Schubert zijn eigen lied 'Der Tod und das Mädchen' op een gedicht van Claudius. Gevoelens van doodsangst enerzijds en doodsverlangen anderzijds doordringen ook de andere delen. Jörg Widmann is een componist die romantische expressie met een hedendaags idioom weet te verzoenen. Zijn Eerste Kwartet schreef hij in opdracht van een kwartetwedstrijd. Vandaar de grote technische en expressieve uitdagingen voor de uitvoerders. Niets onoverkomelijks voor het Artemis Quartett! Au programme figure une passionnante page d'histoire du quatuor. C'est grâce au prince Lobkovitz qu'aux environs de l'année 1800, Beethoven se lança pour la première fois dans le genre quatuor. Ses six quatuors opus 18 témoignent clairement de son admiration pour la tradition de ses illustres précurseurs Haydn et Mozart. Le quatuor à cordes de Schubert en ré mineur D810 est une de ses œuvres les plus puissantes et expressives qui soient. Dans le mouvement lent, Schubert cite son propre lied 'La Jeune Fille et la Mort' sur un poème de Claudius. Un mélange ambigu de peur et de désir de mort imprègne aussi les autres mouvements. Jörg Widmann est un compositeur qui réussit à concilier expression romantique et langage contemporain. Il composa son Premier Quatuor pour un concours de quatuors, ce qui explique les grands défis techniques et expressifs qu'il comporte pour les interprètes.
