Belgian National Orchestra, Octopus & Brussels Chamber Choir olv. Hugh Wolff - Mahler 2 Nederlands: “Verrijzen zal je, mijn hart, in één ogenblik!” Zo luiden de slotwoorden van Mahlers Tweede Symfonie ‘Auferstehung’. Om die hoopvolle boodschap overtuigend te verkondigen, voegde Mahler een koor en twee solisten toe. Hij wilde met zijn symfonieën immers doordringen tot de kern van het menselijke bestaan, en liet daarvoor geen middel onbenut. Verrassende wendingen, bijtende contrasten, zoete melodieën… Onder leiding van chef-dirigent Hugh Wolff brengt het voortreffelijke Belgian National Orchestra een gigantische bezetting op de been, en bundelt het zijn krachten met het Octopus Ensemble en Brussels Chamber Choir. Solisten: de Russische sopraan Sofia Fomina en de Amerikaanse mezzo én wereldster Michelle DeYoung. Samen vertolken ze een van de grootste triomfen van de klassieke muziek. Français : « Tu te lèveras à nouveau, mon cœur, en un clin d’œil ! » – voilà les paroles qui concluent la Symphonie n° 2 de Mahler, Auferstehung ou Résurrection. Comme dans un vaste crescendo musical, l’œuvre semble effectuer un parcours menant du désespoir à la délivrance. Afin de donner des accents convaincants au message d’espoir de sa symphonie, Mahler a renforcé l’orchestre de chœurs et de deux solistes. Souhaitant en effet accéder à l’essence même de l’existence humaine dans chacune de ses symphonies, il n’a négligé aucun moyen d’y parvenir. La musique abonde en tournures surprenantes et contrastes mordants, mais aussi en mélodies d’une extrême douceur.Sous la direction du chef principal Hugh Wolff, l’excellent Belgian National Orchestra se pare d’un effectif gigantesque en s’adjoignant l’Octopus Ensemble et le Brussels Chamber Choir. En tant que solistes, nous accueillons la soprano russie Sofia Fomina et la mezzo américaine Michelle DeYoung, une étoile mondiale. Ensemble, elles interprètent l’un des plus grands triomphes de la musique classique. English: “Rise again, will you, my heart, in an instant!” These are the final words of Mahler’s Second Symphony ‘The Resurrection’. To announce this hopeful message in a convincing way, Mahler added a choir and two soloists. Indeed, with his symphonies his aim was to penetrate to the core of human existence, and in order to achieve this he used all the resources at his disposal. Surprising twists, biting contrasts, but also honeyed melodies. Led by chief conductor Hugh Wolff, the excellent Belgian National Orchestra has put together a gigantic line-up, and is joining forces with the Octopus Ensemble and Brussels Chamber Choir. Soloists: the Russian soprano Sofia Fomina and the American mezzo and world star Michelle DeYoung. Together they will be performing one of the greatest triumphs of classical music. |
