Opmerkelijk, want hij liet zich nooit eerder openlijk over zijn geloof. Dit grootschalige meesterwerk bezit een zekere theatraliteit, waardoor het evengoed in de concertzaal als in de kerk thuishoort. Verbluffende contrasten tussen dramatische lyriek en indrukwekkende stilte, briljante fuga’s en majestueuze, evocatieve koorpassages,… De dramatische spanningsboog die bijna anderhalf uur overspant, maakt de ‘Missa Solemnis’ tot een ware uitputtingsslag voor zowel de zangers als de muzikanten. En tot één van Beethovens meest inspirerende, maar ook meest uitdagende werken. De uitvoering van Le Concert Olympique en Arnold Schönberg Chor, zal het voor altijd een speciale plaats in uw hart veroveren.
