Ricercar Consort . Philippe Pierlot Nederlands: Na B'Rock is het de beurt aan het onvolprezen Ricercar Consort om uit te pakken met een 'Ode on the Death of Henry Purcell'. John Blows 'Ode on the Death of Henry Purcell' is een buitengewoon originele en diepgravende compositie, met als extra pluspunt Drydens elegische tekst. De bezetting - twee contratenoren, twee blokfluiten en een basso continuo - staat symbool voor het ingetogen karakter van dit ontroerende werk. Het Ricercar Consort en de beide contratenoren, Carlos Mena en Damien Guillon, combineren Blows elegie met een selectie uit duetten voor contratenor uit Purcells oeuvre: nu eens briljant en virtuoos, dan weer verstild en ingetogen. Een kolfje naar de hand van de leden van het Ricercar Consort, die als geen ander weten door te dringen tot de diepste emotionele lagen van de barokmuziek. Le Ricercar Consort et les deux contre-ténors, Carlos Mena et Damien Guillon, combinent l'élégie de Blow avec une sélection de duets pour contre-ténor de l'œuvre de Purcell : parfois brillants et virtuoses, parfois paisibles et retenus. This work by John Blow is an exceptionally original and profound composition, and Dryden's elegiac text is an added bonus. The setting - two countertenors, two flutes and figured bass - symbolises the subtle character of this moving piece. The Ricercar Consort and the two countertenors, Carlos Mena and Damien Guillon, combine Blow's elegy with a selection of duets for countertenor from Purcell's oeuvre. It is by turns brilliant and virtuosic, then tranquil and subtle. It fits the members of the Ricercar Consort like a glove, knowing as they do just how to tap into the deepest emotional levels of baroque music. |
