Den nya polisutbildningen som började tillämpas från och med 1 juli 1967, förevisades på måndagen vid polisskolan i Solna. Rikspolischefen C. G. Persson nämnde i hälsningsanförandet att grova brott, narkotikamissbruk och tätnande trafik är de problem som polisen nu har att brottas med. Oron ute i världen har återspeglats i Sverige och kommit till uttryck på olika sätt. Polisutbildningen har därför mycket stor betydelse. Det hjälper inte endast med teknisk upprustning, polismannen måste vara välutbildad för att klara dagens hårda krav, fortsatte rikspolischefen. De krav man ställer på den unge polisaspiranten ev idag är att han har förmåga till studier på lägst gymnasial nivå. 66,9 procent av de anställda aspiranterna under andra halvåret 1967 hade också realexamen eller motsvarande kompetens. Bland dessa fanns 7 med studentexamen. Den grundläggande polisutbildningen omfattar sammanlagt 43 veckor fördelade på konstapelkurs I (cirka 32 veckor), praktiktjänstgöring i Stockholms polisdistrikt (cirka 8 veckor) och konstapelkurs II (cirka 3 veckor). Under konstapelkurs I får aspiranten en skolmässigt ordnad teoretisk och praktisk utbildning.
