Français : [Déscription au site Web original:] Cette rare peinture, longtemps attribuée à Jeaurat, nous montre l’intérieur d’un atelier où l’on pratique la teinture écarlate, l’une des spécialités, dont la réputation s’était répandue jusqu’en Orient, de la manufacture des Gobelins. Dès le XIVe siècle, les teinturiers et drapiers s’étaient installés le long de la Bièvre et c’est au milieu du XVe que vint s’y fixer Jean Gobelin, qui y créa bientôt un atelier modèle et s’y “rendit si célèbre en son art que sa maison, son écarlate, sa teinture et la rivière dont il se servait ont pris son nom” (Sauval, Antiquités de Paris). Restés longtemps dans la descendance de leur fondateur, les ateliers furent achetés, au nom du roi, en 1662, pour y rassembler les plus habiles tapissiers, brodeurs, orfèvres, graveurs, ébénistes, etc. formant ainsi la Manufacture royale des meubles de la couronne. La teinturerie ne fut plus alors représentée que par un seul atelier où l’on conserva la spécialité de l’écarlate.

[Descripción en el sitio web original:] Esta rara pintura, largo tiempo atribuida a Jeaurat, nos muestra el interior de un taller donde se realiza la tintura en escarlata, una de las especialidades, cuya reputación se había extendido hasta el Oriente, de la Manufactura de los Gobelinos. A partir del siglo XIV, los tintoreros y fabricantes de paños se habían asentado a lo largo del Bièvre, y a mediados del siglo XV fijó en ese lugar su residencia Jean Gobelin, quien pronto creó allí un taller modelo, el cual se «volvió tan célebre en su arte que su establecimiento, su escarlata, su tintura y el río que utilizaba tomaron su nombre» (Sauval, Antiquités de Paris). Tras permanecer mucho tiempo en manos de los descendientes de su fundador, los talleres fueron adquiridos, a nombre del rey, en 1662, para reunir allí a los más hábiles tapiceros, bordadores, orfebres, grabadores, ebanistas, etc., formando así la Manufactura real de muebles de la corona. La tintorería quedó representada por nada más que un taller, el cual conservó la especialidad del escarlata.
