Summary
[edit]DescriptionIntricate Jaali Work from inside the Humayun;s Tomb.jpg |
English: "Jaalis", perforated stone screens or windows, having an aesthetic and ornamental value, have been a hallmark of Mughal Architecture. This is an example of such jaali work from inside the Humayun's Tomb. You can clearly see the beautiful shadow pattern made on floor due the brilliantly shining sun on a clear day. The jaalis not only act as vents to bring light and air inside the dark chambers, but also enhance the elegance of the building. Such jaali work can be found in other Mughal era buildings too. For example, Taj Mal, Red Fort etc.
