Demographic decline of the indigenous Irish population from 2002 to 2022, based on census and migration data

![]() | The factual accuracy of this Infographic is disputed. The source of the data given for this infographic is not stated. However, as of the 2022 census of Ireland, 162,280 of 191,348 people in County Galway (84.8%) identified as either White Irish or White Irish Traveller. And yet the colours in this infographic indicate a percentage in the 76-80% range. Similarly, as of the 2022 census, 293,052 of 356,309 people in administrative area of Cork County Council (82.2%) identified as either White Irish or White Irish Traveller. And yet that does not appear to be accurately reflected here. Further, for County Longford, 32,940 of 46,373 people (>71%), self-identified as White Irish or White Irish Traveller. And yet the "dark red" is given as indicating <70%. (While I haven't checked all the other sources/entries, I note that there also an apparent "gap" in the legend. With a range given for "66-70%" and another for "76-80%" - with nothing in between.) Uploader needs to show source data and table used to populate this graphic. For verification. (The 2002 and 2022 maps also don't appear to be comparing "like with like". The 2002 census doesn't appear to have had a question about ethnicity. Only nationality. As did the 2022 census. So we appear to be comparing "nationality" (in 2002) with "ethnicity" in 2022?) |
