Description This 1854 sewing machiine model that Isaac Singer submitted to the Patent Office--which originally occupied this building--provided further refinements to the device he patented in 1851. Although Singer did not invent the sewing machine, he improved it dramatically, making it practical for both industrial and domestic use.
