| Description |
Nederlands: Schematische weergave van het principe van isostatisch evenwicht in de geodynamica. De drie afgebeelde situaties zijn: 1: een gebergte of plateau; 2: een geheel opgevuld bekken; 3: een niet geheel gevuld bekken (waarbij water het bovenste deel van de kolom vormt). De formules rechts geven de lithostatische druk op de referentiehoogte. De gebruikte symbolen zijn: ρL = dichtheid van de lithosfeer; ρA = dichtheid van de asthenosfeer; ρS = dichtheid van de sedimenten in het bekken; ρW = dichtheid van zeewater. De letter h staat voor de hoogtes van de verschillende delen van de kolommen; g is de zwaartekrachtsversnelling.
Wanneer er sprake is van isostatisch evenwicht zal de lithostatische druk op de referentiehoogte in alle gevallen gelijk zijn, oftewel: P1 = P2 = P3. |
