Summary

[edit]
Description
English: I like spectacular mosques, and this is one of them. The new 5,000 capacity mosque at the Marmara University Faculty of Theology was officially opened on Friday, October 23, 2015 by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. It replaces a mosque that was demolished in 2012 because of earthquake risks. The mosque has a rather peculiar architecture if compared to the typical Turkish mosque. The design of its dome was inspired by a nautilus shell and is integrated with a dovetail ceiling technique that was common in old wooden houses in Turkey.
