Istanbul New mosque Hunkar Mahfili

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Under the arch to the left one sees a raised platform where the sultan could attend the service without being seen (or only partially because of a grating), called a Hükar mahfili. It would often be raised and afford privacy as well as safety from murder attempts. It would often connect to the Hünkar kasrı, a set of rooms with generally their own entrance, for the sultan and his retinue. The Hünkar kasrı of the New Mosque can be visited, the entrance is to the east of the north side of the mosque, with a ramp where the sultan could walk up to some wonderful rooms with high quality tiles and all comfort. It often houses temporary exhibitions.
