Description

This letter contains two sections written by different people. The first section is written by J.W. Lakin to his brother and sister and describes his daily life in camp with the Union army. He discusses picket duty, his pay and uniform, and a conflict between General Wallace and General Smith about hanging flags on secessionist homes. The second section is written by William Lakin to his son J.W. Lakin and discusses the work on their farm.
