Jan Vojtíšek (* 23 February 1912 Prague - 26 January 1943 Mauthausen concentration camp)

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Jan Vojtíšek (* 23 February 1912 Prague - 26 January 1943 Mauthausen concentration camp) was a printer like his father. He was asked for his cooperation (through Operation Silver A) by the Second Intelligence Department of the exiled Ministry of National Defence (MND) in London. The Vojtíšek family lived in Lázně Bělohrad and an illegal intelligence desk and dispatching centre was set up in their flat to serve the needs of the paratroopers. As a result of the betrayal of Staff Sergeant Karel Čurda (Operation Out Distance), Jan Vojtíšek was arrested on 17 June 1942. Almost the entire Vojtíšek family was murdered in the Mauthausen concentration camp on 24 October 1942, but Jan Vojtíšek, as one of the key witnesses, was imprisoned in the police prison at Pankrác in Prague, then transferred to the prison in the Small Fortress of Terezín and from there to the Mauthausen concentration camp, where he was shot only on 26 January 1943 at 4.39 pm.
