| Notes | The present work has a similar painted border of botanicals and is nearly identical in size to two of Marioton's compositions sold in these rooms (May 24, 1988, lots 86 and 87). All three paintings feature a nymph or classical maiden among blooming flowers or the lily pads of a pond. The subtle shifts of light, color palette, and mood from one work to the next suggests these were part of a series of allegories of the seasons or the times of day. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
