English: Mount Rum, one of the most recognizable rock formations in the Wadi Rum, is popularly known as "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom". Most people assume that T. E. Lawrence's book was named after this cliff. In fact the reverse is true, and the 'Seven Pillars' referred to in the book actually have no connection with Wadi Rum. Besides, the cliff has only six "pillars". T. E. Lawrence was a British officer who based his operations in the Wadi Rum during the Arab Revolt of 1917–18. |
